Wat Suthat Temple and the Giant Swing

At first the swing was put up near the Devasthan shrine but was removed when it was damaged and in 1920, after it was renovated, the swing was moved to its current location. And the ceremony was once again continued after several fatal accidents occured when the ritual was discontinued.

In 1959, the Giant Swing’s last renovations were done after its wooden pillars showed signs of serious damage.

It was suggested in 2005 that the Giant Swing and Wat Suthat temple will be candidates for future UNESCO World Heritage Site.
